The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) swore in its four board members Monday, restoring a quorum for the nine-member board.
Nominated by President Donald Trump in July, Arthur Graham, Mitch Graves, Jeff Hagood and Randall Jones were confirmed by the Senate among a bloc of nominations last month. They will now join TVA’s Board Chair Bill Renick and Directors Bobby Klein and Wade White.
During their nomination hearing in October, all four were keen on nuclear power, particularly small modular reactors, and leaning into the energy source that figures prominently in TVA’s integrated resource plan.
Graves and Hagood’s terms will expire on May 18, 2029 and Jones’s term will expire May 18, 2028. Graham of Florida, a state that is not in TVA’s seven-state service region, will have his term expire within months on May 18, 2026.
The federally-owned TVA is the largest public power utility in the United States. It operates seven nuclear reactors across three nuclear power plants. Nuclear power makes up about 42% of the electricity generated by TVA.
TVA’s board of directors are in charge of setting strategy, goals and long-range plans and policies for the public utility.
TVA, like several other government agencies, dealt with a personnel shakeup last year after Trump terminated three Joe Biden-appointed members from its board. For months, TVA was down to only three members and lacked a quorum. The nine-member board must have at least five members to hold a vote.
With seven members on the board, the TVA board will be able to hold a vote at its upcoming quarterly meeting on Feb. 11 in Hopkinsville, Ky.
