Oak Ridge cleanup contractor URS CH2M Oak Ridge, LLC, announced Friday that it completed demolition of K-25’s east wing and will start work on the former uranium enrichment plant’s north end. That leaves only the building’s smaller north end and a small section of the east wing contaminated with technetium-99 as the only portions of the plant still standing. “This is a day we’ve been working towards for quite some time,” Jim Kopotic, federal project director for East Tennessee Technology Park cleanup said in a statement. “It is a major achievement, and our team will maintain its momentum and continue towards our goal of completing the demolition of the K-25 Building.”
