WESTINGHOUSE MOVING AWAY FROM SMR PLANS

By ExchangeMonitor

Due to current market conditions, Westinghouse is backing off plans to develop a small modular reactor and will focus more on other reactor projects, according to reports. The vendor now plans to focus staff resources more on the AP1000, the full-size reactor now under construction at several sites, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “The problem I have with SMRs is not the technology, it’s not the deployment — it’s that there’s no customers. The worst thing to do is get ahead of the market, ” Westinghouse Nuclear President and CEO Danny Roderick Mr. Roderick told the Post-Gazette. Westinghouse did not respond to request for comment yesterday.
