Westinghouse has hired Gaby Poirier to become the president of the company’s global operating plants business unit.
Poirier comes from the global aluminum producer Alcoa, where he oversaw its Northern American operations and served as president of Alcoa Canada, according to Westinghouse’s Tuesday press release.
In Poirier’s new role with Westinghouse, he will lead the delivery of Westinghouse’s core products and services to its operating nuclear plants around the world. This includes nuclear fuel, engineering solutions, control systems and maintenance services. He will also lead the deployment of the company’s capital investment projects.
Current Westinghouse CEO Dan Sumner previously held this role before taking on the interim CEO position after former CEO Patrick Fragman stepped down in March 2025.
“It is a pivotal time for the nuclear industry, and Westinghouse is as focused as ever on serving our operating plant customers across the world,” Sumner said in the release. “We are proud to welcome Gaby and his extensive technical and operational expertise to our team. He brings invaluable and diverse capabilities, paired with demonstrated achievements in manufacturing and operations and unwavering commitments to quality and safety, that will drive stronger outcomes for our customers around the world.”
Poirier holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering from the Université de Sherbrooke. He also holds a master of business administration in finance from the Université du Québec à Montréal.
