With less than a week to go, it remains to be seen whether the Department of Energy will be able to meet its goal to award the new Office of Legacy Management support services contract before the current one, held by S.M. Stoller, expires on April 9. When asked about the status of the procurement, a DOE official said yesterday, “The Energy Department has been performing detailed analysis of the proposals, and is working diligently to award this contract before the current contract extension expires later this month."
DOE’s search for a new Legacy Management support services contractor has stretched on now for almost a year-and-a-half. DOE issued the Request for Proposals for the new contract in November 2011, and bids were ultimately due by mid-February 2012. DOE has said the new contract, which is set aside for small businesses, is set to consist of a 24-month base period and one 36-month option period, but has declined to comment on the estimated value of the contract, saying such information is procurement sensitive. Work to be performed under the contract includes long-term surveillance and maintenance; information technology and records management; asset management; and program-wide support services.
