EnergySolutions appointed Laszlo von Lazar as vice president of operations on Thursday.
Lazar has served in previous roles that involved managing operations in the power sector including gas, offshore wind, nuclear and solar. He previously served as president of the Energy and Process Industries and was a member of the board at Black and Veatch.
Lazar also worked in prominent roles with General Electric for four years and Bechtel Corporation for 27 years.
Amentum has announced Corhyn Parr as its vice president of international development on Tuesday. Parr previously served as the CEO of Nuclear Waste Services, a subdivision of the United Kingdom’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and was the director of Integrated Waste at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
After graduating as a mechanical engineer, Parr has been involved with the nuclear industry for over 20 years, working in operations, generation, decommissioning and waste management across most of the nuclear licensed sites in the United Kingdom, according to the release. She has also worked internationally in Canada, USA and other European countries.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) recently published the 2024-2025 edition of its Information Digest.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has been publishing the digest since 1989 and it now comes out every two years. The Digest includes information pertaining to the agency’s activities, responsibilities and offers general information on nuclear-based topics.
In addition to NRC information the booklet also includes some nuclear data from other sources, such as the Department of Energy, Energy Information Administration and the International Atomic Energy Agency. The information is up to date as of Sept. 30, 2024. The next edition is due out in February 2027, according to the NRC website. The publication is now on a two-year cycle, with the next Information Digest being updated and published in February 2027.
The Government Accountability Office last week said the National Nuclear Security Administration could do more to develop a resiliency strategy to mitigate risks to its explosives supply chain, manufacturing and infrastructure.
According to a report published March 12, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found 66 total risks, identified by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), across the agency’s 11 explosives supply chains.
Obituaries
Former U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.), the first woman to control Congressional purse strings, died last weekend at age 87 after a battle with breast cancer, major news outlets reported over the weekend.
Lowey, a former chair of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, spent several terms in Congress, but decided not to seek re-election in 2020.
“Nita didn’t wait for history — she made it,” current House Appropriations Chair Tom Cole (R-OK), said in a Monday statement. “As the first woman to lead the House Appropriations Committee, she trailblazed a path of leadership defined by integrity, hard work, and an unyielding dedication to public service.”
Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) who served on the House Natural Resources Committee has died at age 77 apparently from complications from lung cancer treatments, media outlets reported recently.
“Representative Grijalva was like no other — an exceptional, unforgettable human being shaped by hardscrabble economic struggle long before he ever was elected to Congress,” Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) said in a March 13 statement.
Grijalva’s service was also praised by New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D), who served with Grijalva in Congress. The Arizona representative is the second Democratic member of the House to die in the past two weeks. A week earlier, Rep. Sylvester Turner (D-Texas), died at age 70.
