AREVA TN announced this week the successful delivery of eight NUHOMS 61BTH dry shielded canisters for used nuclear fuel storage to the Limerick Generating Station in Pennsylvania. According to the company, the canisters can safely store 61 used fuel assemblies, and they are specifically designed to handle high heat fuel. “AREVA’s NUHOMS® system offers significant advantages in storage capacity, safety and versatility,” said Joseph Faldowski, president and COO of Columbiana Hi Tech, a part of AREVA. “We are working to provide our customers with cost-effective, high-quality used nuclear fuel storage solutions.”
AVANTech announced last week the addition of David Malkmus to its leadership team. Malkmus will serve as the Vice President of Business Development for the company. “The addition of David to our team is a key strategic move for AVANTech,” AVANTech Senior Vice President Gary Benda said in a statement. “His extensive background with US Utilities in waste management and water treatment, and his exceptional reputation within the industry will significantly enhance our growth, As our Vice President of Business Development, Dave will focus on bringing the integrated services of AVANTech and DTS to our U.S. utility and industrial market.”
The Westinghouse Electric Company announced this week that it has opened a new United Kingdom office to support its contracts at the Sellafield site. Most recently, the company won a contract to help in the transferring of sludge from the First Generation Magnox Storage Pond to a new £240 million state-of-the-art sludge storage plant. “The new office will both facilitate the delivery of existing contracts and be a place from which we can service new decommissioning and remediation contracts we are determined to win,” Westinghouse Vice President and Managing Director for the United Kingdom, Middle East, and Egypt Dave Unsworth said in a statement. “We have long had an ambition to open an office in West Cumbria and we believe that the time is now right for us to do this. We are incredibly proud of the contracts we have won from Sellafield Ltd, where we are bringing our global decommissioning and remediation capability to help tackle some of the high hazard challenges on the site.”
