X-Energy becomes a public company

By ExchangeMonitor

Rockville, Md.-based X-Energy officially became a publicly listed company on the NASDAQ Global Select Market on April 24, the company said in an April 24 LinkedIn post.

The small modular reactor (SMR) developer will be traded under the ticker symbol of XE. On April 23, X-Energy announced the pricing of its upsized initial public offering of 44 million shares of its Class A common stock at $23 per share. An upsized public offering typically occurs when a company, during an initial public offering, increases the number of shares, price per share, or both due to higher than expected investor demand.

According to a google stock tracker, X-Energy closed the Monday trading day at just about $36 per share.

Amazon is a major stakeholder in X-Energy and also a client of the SMR company. In October 2024, Energy Northwest and X-Energy announced a multi-year agreement with Amazon to develop advanced reactors in the Northwest. Under that deal, Amazon has the right to purchase electricity from their first project.

With our IPO [initial public offering], we celebrate the industry-leading progress we’ve made to commercialize SMR technologies and look forward to what we’ll achieve as a public company,” X-Energy said in its LinkedIn post. “Together, with our partners and investors, X-energy is unlocking an abundant, reliable energy future.

According to multiple news outlets, X-Energy is roughly valued at between $11.5 billion to $11.9 billion.

X-Energy is developing the Xe-100 reactor, a high-temperature gas-cooled SMR capable of producing 80 megawatts of electricity. The reactor is designed to operate as a four-pack power plant that generates 320 megawatts.

The company is seeking approvals from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as its construction permit application for a Xe-100 plant in Seadrift, Texas is currently under review. Its subsidiary company TRISO-X was issued an NRC special nuclear material license for the use of high-assay low-enriched uranium – or HALEU, at its fuel fabrication facility in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
