Amentum expects to provide 3,000 UK jobs in UK-US deal

By ExchangeMonitor

Amentum announced plans to create 3,000 new jobs over the next four years to support the growth of the United Kingdom’s nuclear power and defense industry.

The engineering solutions company’s announcement came as a part of a handful of deals between UK and U.S. nuclear companies following President Donald Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom last week.

Amentum was also awarded a four-year contract worth £26 million ($35 million US) to provide services to the UK’s Nuclear Waste Services to assist in the country’s nuclear waste management.

“The U.S. State visit reflects the unique strength of the UK-U.S. partnership and our shared determination to drive economic growth and prosperity,” Amentum CEO John Heller said in Amentum’s Sept. 18 press release. “Commitments by both governments to back and invest in these industries help drive Amentum’s continued growth and investment in innovation, jobs and skills on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Heller met with Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers during the President’s visit, according to the release.

Amentum has already had a presence in the United Kingdom. It is a lead delivery partner for the UK’s new nuclear power stations at Hinkley Point C in Somerset, England and Sizewell C in Suffolk, England.

The company additionally provides technical and project solutions for small modular reactors and fusion research, while employing over 6,000 people in the United Kingdom, according to the release.

“Based on current demand projections, we expect to increase our UK headcount by 50% over the next four years,” Mark Whitney, president of Amentum Energy & Environment, said in the release.

For the UK’s national defense, Amentum also contributes towards it by providing safety and technological services for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarines and managing the UK training estate for Defence Infrastructure Organization, which is part of UK’s Ministry of Defence.
