Budget hearing on DOE this week features EnergySec testimony

By ExchangeMonitor

Secretary of Energy Chris Wright will testify on the Department of Energy’s fiscal 2027 budget request Wednesday in front of the House Appropriations Energy and Water subcommittee.

The hearing will take place at 2 p.m. Eastern time in the Rayburn House Office Building, room 2359. The livestream can be accessed here.

This hearing comes after the White House issued a budget request for fiscal 2027 that would give $32.8 billion to the DOE’s semiautonomous National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), and the DOE issued its budget justification document listing line items for each of NNSA’s subcategories. DOE’s Office of Environmental Management would receive $8.2 billion and Office of Nuclear Energy $1.5 billion, both less than the fiscal 2026 levels.

The House Appropriations Committee released a schedule Monday for the markups of each of the appropriations bills, listing the subcommittee level markup for the Energy and Water bill, which would fund DOE, on May 15. The full committee markup will be on May 20.
