The Department of Energy yesterday awarded a $1.6 million grant to the New Mexico Environment Department for oversight and monitoring of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. The grant will be used cover five years of NMED non-regulatory activities at the defense transuranic waste disposal facility near Carlsbad, N.M.
