DOE Seeking information on CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy on Thursday issued a request for information on offshore enhanced oil recovery (EOR) processes. “One place where captured anthropogenic CO2 could be stored is in depleted oil and gas reservoirs offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. Injecting CO2 into these reservoirs could also result in enhanced recovery of residual oil. The technologies and procedures for offshore CO2 EOR need to be further developed and refined before this approach can be implemented,” the RFI says.

The department is seeking information from oil and natural gas exploration and production companies, academia, research laboratories, government agencies, and other stakeholders in three areas: technical and economic feasibility of offshore CO2 transport, handling, and injection; systems integration for offshore CO2 injection projects; and technically recoverable CO2 EOR resources.

Responses to the RFI will be accepted until Dec. 16, and can be submitted via email to [email protected].
