July 30 is the deadline for interested parties to file comments for the Department of Energy’s draft request for proposals (RFP) for the 222-S Laboratory at the Hanford Site in Richland, Wash.
The 70,000-square-foot facility, which recently turned 75, analyzes highly-radioactive samples from Hanford tank waste. It is currently run by Navarro-ATL under a $636-million contract that began in January 2021 and is scheduled to expire in January 2027.
Earlier this month DOE’s Office of Environmental Management held site tours and an industry day for interested vendors.
The final RFP for the new 222-S contract could be released as early as October. The 222-S procurement could be the only sizable solicitation that Environmental Management advances the rest of the year, based upon a notice last month.
In a June 30 special notice online, DOE’s Environmental Management Consolidated Business Center cited a “procurement delay” for both the final RFP for the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract as well as the draft request for quotes for the Los Alamos Technical Assistance Contract.
The Los Alamos remediation contract is held by Huntington Ingalls-led Newport News Nuclear-BWXT (N3B). According to the latest online DOE contract summary, The N3B contract, currently valued at about $2.3 billion began in April 2018 and is currently scheduled to expire in April 2029.
The technical assistance contract is held by S&K Mission Support. S&K is owned by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. S&K’s current agreement with DOE for Los Alamos expires in September 2027 and is valued at nearly $29 million.
