Major changes are in the works for B&W’s Technical Services Group, with President George Dudich leaving the company, NS&D Monitor has learned. B&W is also moving to combine its Technical Services Group with the company’s Nuclear Operations Group to create a new Government Operations division that will be headed by Sandy Baker, who is currently president of the Nuclear Operations Group. B&W TSG Vice President Ken Camplin will lead business development efforts for the new Government Operations division. Current TSG Chief Operating Officer Chuck Spencer will also report to Baker. Dudich’s departure and more details of the planned TSG reorganization are expected to be officially announced early next week. B&W did not respond to requests for comment as of press time.

The changes to B&W Technical Services Group come shortly after Babcock & Wilcox officially gave up its unsuccessful fight for the new combined Y-12 and Pantex management and operating contract. B&W had led incumbent teams at both sites, which represented about half of the income for the Technical Services Group. After more than 14 months and three Government Accountability Office protests, Bechtel-led Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC, has begun transition as the new consolidated management contractor for Y-12 and Pantex.

In an interview last year, B&W President and CEO Jim Ferland acknowledged that losing out on Y-12/Pantex would have a significant impact on the company. “If we lose, we probably will have to step back,” he said. “That said, we plan to remain in the marketplace, win or lose. We have an incredibly talented group of people within TSG. We’ll have more people if we lose the Y-12/Pantex rebid. We think that positions us well for opportunities going forward. We remain committed to the marketplace either way. But it is a big deal for that business unit.”
