Google to fund the development of three nuclear sites

By ExchangeMonitor

Elementl Power has signed a strategic agreement with Google on Wednesday to develop three advanced reactors for the technology company.

In the agreement, Elementl Power, a nuclear developer based in Washington, D.C, plans to provide at least 600 megawatts for each project, with the option for commercial off-take when completed, as said in the Wednesday joint press release.

As a part of the agreement, Google will commit early-stage development capital towards the three projects.

“Google is committed to catalyzing projects that strengthen the power grids where we operate, and advanced nuclear technology provides reliable, baseload, 24/7 energy,” said Google’s Global Head of Data Centers Amanda Peterson Corio.

Elementl Power was founded in 2022 by Dan Faherty, David Faherty and Ryan Mills. The company’s CEO is Chris Colbert, who previously served as the chief financial officer, chief operating officer and chief strategy officer at NuScale Power, a designer of small modular reactors.

With its agreement with Google, the nuclear company said it is progressing towards its goal of deploying more than 10 gigawatts of nuclear energy in the United States by 2035, according to the press release.

Elementl Power has not built any sites to date.

Google’s newest agreement is an addition to the company’s efforts to secure advanced nuclear generation for its projects. The company previously signed an agreement in October 2024 to purchase electricity from small modular reactors built by Kairos Power. The deal will enable up to 500 MW of electricity.
