Lawmakers request briefing by DOE on 10 missing scientists

By ExchangeMonitor

In a letter to Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, lawmakers wrote this week that Congress is investigating “recent unconfirmed public reporting on the disappearance and death of individuals with access to sensitive U.S. scientific information.”

As of April 17, 10 scientists were recently reported either dead or missing. All 10 were involved in researching and working with classified or sensitive government topics, including the military, aerospace, nuclear initiatives, and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), according to local publication Colorado Politics. Two out of the 10, Melissa Casias and Anthony Chavez, were linked to Los Alamos National Laboratory. Los Alamos is one of the Department of Energy’s  semiautonomous National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) national labs.

“These reports allege that at least ten individuals who ‘had a connection to U.S. nuclear secrets or rocket technology,’ have ‘died or mysteriously vanished in

recent years,’” the letter by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said. The senators want a briefing from the FBI, NASA, the Pentagon and DOE on the matter. “If the reports are accurate, these deaths and disappearances may represent a grave threat to U.S. national security and to U.S. personnel with access to scientific secrets.”

A Fox News Digital article written Friday, which brings up the death of an 11th scientist in 2022, said NNSA is involved in investigating the deaths and disappearances of the scientists due to the two linked to Los Alamos National Laboratory.

“NNSA is aware of reports related to employees of our labs, plants and sites and is looking into the matter,” NNSA wrote in a statement.

The Donald Trump administration is also investigating the disappearing scientists. The White House is actively working with all relevant agencies and the FBI to holistically review all of the cases together and identify any potential commonalities that may exist,” White House Press Secretary wrote on X on April 17. “No stone will be unturned in this effort, and the White House will provide updates when we have them.
