Here are some of the events around Washington that we’re keeping an eye on this week:
- The Sea-Air-Space Exposition will be held today through Wednesday at the Gaylord National Hotel in National Harbor, Md. Sessions will include speakers from consultants, industry, the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, including senior leaders.
- The House Armed Services Committee will hold a hearing on Nuclear Forces for Fiscal Year 2016 at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Rayburn House Office Building 2118. Committee members will hear testimony from Robert Scher, Assistant Defense Secretary for Strategy, Plans and Capabilities; Dr. Arthur Hopkins, Acting Principal Assistant Defense Secretary for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Defense Programs; Vice Adm. Terry Benedict, Director of Navy Strategic Systems Programs; and Maj. Gen. Garrett Harencak, Air Force Assistant Chief of Staff for Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration.
- NNSA Administrator Frank Klotz will appear before the Senate Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday along with four other witnesses. The hearing will take place in Room 222 of the Russell Senate Office Building. Klotz will be joined by NNSA weapons program chief Don Cook, NNSA nonproliferation chief Anne Harrington, Naval Reactors director Adm. John Richardson, and David Trimble, the Government Accountability Office’s director of Natural Resources and Environment.
- The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will appear before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in Dirsken 406. The topic will be the NRC’s 2016 budget request, and all four commissioners will be in attendance.
- The Congressional Nuclear Cleanup Caucus will hold its second meeting of the year Wednesday with a panel of Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management officials focusing on “progress through partnership.” The meeting, to be held in Room 2325 of the Rayburn House Office Building from 5 pm. to 6:30 p.m., will be led by Caucus Chair Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.) and Co-Chair Rep Ben Lujan (D-N.M.). The panel discussion will include acting Assistant EM Secretary Mark Whitney, Oak Ridge Environmental Management Manager Sue Cange, DOE Richland Operations Office Manager Stacy Charboneau, EM Consolidated Business Center Director Jack Craig, Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office Manager Bill Murphie, DOE Idaho Cleanup Project Deputy Manager Jack Zimmerman and representatives from the Energy Technology and Environmental Business Association (ETEBA).
