NNSA announces new supercomputer plans for Los Alamos

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) announced plans Thursday for two new supercomputers at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.

The Mission and Vision supercomputers will be built by Hewlett Packard Enterprise and powered by the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform, NNSA said in a press release.  The Mission and Vision systems should be operating in 2027 and 2028, NNSA said.

“The Genesis Mission calls for exactly these kinds of partnerships to meet the urgency our mission demands,” NNSA Administrator Brandon Williams said in the release. “By codesigning these systems alongside HPE and NVIDIA from the ground up, we’re building the tools that will allow our scientists and engineers to reduce the time needed for discovery from months to minutes.”
