NRC FINDS NO VIOLATIONS IN LATEST INSPECTION PERIOD

NS&D Monitor
2/14/2014

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission found no violations in its latest round of construction inspections at the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility. The NRC conducts quarterly inspections of the project’s construction by contractor Shaw AREVA MOX Services. “The inspections examined activities conducted under your construction authorization as they relate to safety and compliance with the Commission’s rules and regulations and with the conditions of your authorization. The inspectors reviewed selected procedures and records, observed activities, and interviewed personnel,” states a Feb. 7 letter from the NRC to MOX Services covering the period from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31. “Based on the results of these inspections, no violations or deviations were identified.”

In the inspection period covering July 1 through Sept. 31, the NRC reported two minor violations in the least severe category for NRC violations. “However, because these findings were Severity Level IV violations and were entered into your corrective action program, the NRC is treating them as non-cited violations,” states a Nov. 4 letter from the NRC to MOX Services. Both violations involved procedures related to the installation of piping in the fluid transport system.
