Parsons wins two NNSA counter-nuclear smuggling task orders

Parsons has secured two task orders from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)  to design and deploy counter-nuclear smuggling systems across the Middle East and Africa.

The Middle East Region 3 and Africa Region 2 task orders cover counter-nuclear smuggling initiatives in 25 countries, according to an Aug. 27 company announcement. NNSA is a semiautonomous branch within the Department of Energy charged with among other things overseeing the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile.

The awards include a base period running through July 2027, followed by four option periods extending through July 2031. They bring Parsons’ total task orders under NNSA’s Counter Nuclear Smuggling Systems Deployment contract to seven, with approximately $90 million in awarded value, the company said.

The work will support partner countries’ capabilities to detect, disrupt and investigate illicit trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials. Parsons’ responsibilities can include project management, engineering, procurement, system design, deployment, logistics, integration and communications.

“The threat of nuclear and radiological smuggling remains a critical global security challenge that requires strong international partnerships and proven technical expertise,” Martin Boson, president of Engineered Systems for Parsons, said in the announcement.

NNSA awarded Virginia-based Parsons one of two positions on the Counter Nuclear Smuggling Systems Deployment multiple-award, multiple-task-order contract in March 2024. The contract has a $1 billion ceiling value and is intended to support the deployment of counter-nuclear smuggling technologies and capabilities internationally.
