The Nuclear Company has launched a next-generation nuclear security platform called NOS Security this week that would modernize protection of nuclear infrastructure, construction sites and operating facilities across the United States and allied nations.
NOS Security, developed over the past year, is an integrated cyber-security platform for the nuclear industry, The Nuclear Company said in its Monday press release. The system uses artificial intelligence-(AI) enabled monitoring, advanced sensing systems and cyber defense within a single platform curated for modern nuclear deployment and operations.
“The United States cannot deploy hundreds of gigawatts of nuclear power without simultaneously raising the security standard for the industry,” Jonathan Webb, CEO of The Nuclear Company, said. “President Trump has made clear that America must rapidly scale nuclear energy to support AI, manufacturing, national security, and economic leadership. That mission requires modern infrastructure protection built for today’s threat environment.”
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said on May 15 it has received a bid from Indiana to become the 41st agreement state.
An agreement state enters into a deal with the NRC to assume regulatory authority over particular radioactive materials and do inspections within the respective state borders. The state also receives some license fee revenue to support the program. NRC periodically checks up on the state regulatory program.
If Indiana’s request is approved, then it would take responsibility for licensing, inspection and enforcement for nearly 200 users of radioactive materials. According to NRC’s press release, affected users include hospitals, universities and industrial facilities. NRC will retain authority over about 20 licenses, as well as federal agencies and certain materials as required by law, the agency added.
A new nuclear fuel company partners up with the Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory to pursue company plans to recycle used fuel from existing nuclear plants to produce new fuel.
The new company, BLSK Energy, publicly announced its plans Monday. Formed in early 2025, BLSK Energy said in its press release that it has plans to have a pilot recycling facility that will produce fuel for advanced reactors in operation by 2034.
BLSK Energy’s managing director is Bruce Landrey, who is also the co-founder of the company. Landrey has been in the nuclear industry for over 40 years, serving various capacities, including being in an executive role with the Tennessee Valley Authority and chief marketing officer and vice president of international marketing and external affairs at NuScale Power.
A new state-based nuclear organization in Ohio has announced it will begin operations on June 2 at an inaugural event held in Columbus, Ohio, according to a Thursday LinkedIn post.
The Ohio Nuclear Alliance said that the state has “one of the most complete nuclear ecosystems in the country,” but lacks a single, unified, industry-backed organization focused solely on nuclear energy to the state of Ohio.
The organization said it looks to fill that gap. It plans to deliver assistance in industry coordination, community readiness, policy and advocacy and workforce and education.
Democratic mayoral candidate Gary Goodweather proposed the idea of powering Washington, D.C. with a nuclear reactor during a mayoral primary debate this week.
Goodweather said that Washington, D.C. could use technologies such as geothermal and solar to help bring down energy costs now, but nuclear could be used down the line. He said the nuclear reactor could be placed on federal land such as Joint Base Anacostia-Boiling and near the Department of Homeland Security.
According to a Wednesday City Cast DC poll, Goodweather trails in third place with garnering 7% of the pollers votes. Democratic mayoral candidates Janeese Lewis George and Kenyan McDuffie headlined the poll with garnering 39% and 34% respectively.
