Sandia Had Nine New COVID Cases Last Week

By ExchangeMonitor

The Sandia National Laboratories confirmed nine new cases of COVID-19 among its workforce last week, raising the lab network’s total since the start of the outbreak to 86 cases.

As of Friday, Sandia Albuquerque had nine new cases while Sandia California, near the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, had two new cases, a Sandia spokesperson said. The California campus had not had a new case in almost a month, prior to Friday.

Meanwhile, Sandia’s T7, T9 and T10 buildings in New Mexico were scheduled to reopen for normal operations Monday morning after shutting down for COVID-19-related deep cleanings, the lab said.

More than half of Sandia’s employees are still teleworking, the labs spokesperson said Friday.

The entire National Nuclear Security Administration saw an uptick in COVID-19 cases last week, when confirmed cases enterprise-wide rose by 41, compared with the week before. The NNSA had as of Friday tracked 794 COVID-19 cases, two of which were fatal.
