Navy Strategic Systems Programs last week announced it will contract with Charles Stark Draper Laboratories to ensure Trident 2 Guidance Systems are sustained throughout their life cycle. Draper won a $257.8 million contract on March 7, 2013 to alter the missile’s guidance system as part of life extension work. Draper’s work will involve detailed analysis of all factory and fleet performance data and development of alternative technologies to mitigate product obsolescence. Draper will also provide program management, administration, engineering, contracting, configuration and process control for maintenance of the MK6 Guidance System to ensure it meets all program objectives, including cost, electrical, and mechanical interface control for high-accuracy instrumentation applications.
