TYPE-B CASK DELIEVRIES STILL ON TRACK FOR FIRST QUARTER

EnergySolutions and Waste Control Specialists each remain on track to receive new Type-B casks— capable of shipping Class B and C low-level radioactive waste—in the first quarter of this year, spokesmen for both companies said this week.  EnergySolutions, which owns and operates the four Type-B casks that currently service the U.S. nuclear industry, received Nuclear Regulatory Commission approval for four new 8-120B type B packages in August 2012, but delays in fabrication have pushed the delivery of the casks back from an original spring 2013 delivery date. The new casks fill a glaring industry need as only four casks are currently in rotation to ship Class B and C low-level waste. Waste Control Specialists’ Type-B cask order delivery is also still on track for the first quarter, according to WCS spokesman Chuck McDonald. WCS partnered with Robatel for its casks. It currently does not have any Type-B casks in operation.
