V2X has been awarded a position on a $46 million U.S. Air Force delivery order to produce equipment supporting integration of the Long Range Standoff (LRSO) cruise missile onto the B-52 bomber.
The Reston, Va.-based company will provide carriage equipment under the Air Force’s Carriage Equipment Production Effort for the LRSO program, according to a Sept. 15 company announcement.
The award was issued through the Enterprise-Wide Agile Acquisition Contract, an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.
The LRSO is being developed to replace the Air Force’s existing Air-Launched Cruise Missile and is designed for deployment from the B-52 Stratofortress. The weapon is part of the Air Force’s effort to modernize its air-launched leg of the nuclear triad.
V2X’s work will support production of the carriage equipment needed to integrate the LRSO weapon system with the B-52.
The company said the contract supports the Air Force’s broader B-52 modernization effort and the nation’s strategic deterrent.
The dual-capable B-52 bomber delivers the Long Range Standoff cruise missile, which carries the W80-4 warhead. The National Nuclear Security Administration is refurbishing the W80-4 warhead through a life extension program.
