Tim Walsh, who heads the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management, will join six other witnesses, including two from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), to testify before a Senate Armed Forces panel Monday on the White House’s fiscal 2027 budget request for key DOE and Department of Defense programs.

TheArmed Services subcommittee on Strategic Forces session will focus on atomic energy defense and nuclear weapons programs.  The hearing is set for 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time at the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C.

The Donald Trump administration has requested a budget of $27.4 billion for NNSA, which would be up about $7 billion from fiscal 2026,  and $8.2 billion for the Environmental Management office, down roughly $300 million from the prior year.  Secretary of Energy Chris Wright is expected to have more to say about the DOE budget requests when he appears before two Senate panels later this week.

The Monday Senate hearing will be webcast and more information can be found here.

In addition to Walsh, other witnesses include:

NNSA Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs David Beck;

NNSA’s Director of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program William Houston;

Commander of Air Force Global Strike Command General Stephen Davis,

Department of the Air Force Director Critical Major Weapon Systems Dale White;

Department of the Navy’s Director for Strategic Systems Programs Vice Admiral Johnny Wolfe, Jr.; and

Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Deterrence, Chemical, and Biological Defense Policy and Programs Robert Kadlec.
