WIPP SHAFT INSPECTIONS COMPLETED FOR REENTRY PREPARATIONS

By ExchangeMonitor
In preparation for reentering the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant underground, air intake and salt shaft inspections have been completed and have not identified any safety or mechanical concerns, the Department of Energy announced yesterday. The inspections are required before mine reentry. “ During the inspections personnel rode the conveyance down the shaft at a slow speed, allowing them to inspect the shaft,” according to a DOE release. “Personnel also performed a mechanical inspection of the overall operability.  The successful completion of both shaft inspections is an important step toward re-entering the WIPP underground facility.”
