BWX Technologies said Thursday that it has received more than $1.4 billion in contracts under the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, continuing a steady stream of awards tied to the Navy’s submarine and aircraft carrier reactor enterprise.
The largest award, valued at roughly $1.285 billion, covers long-lead material procurement for fiscal 2026 and represents the first of five annual task-order awards expected to run through 2030, according to the company. BWX Technologies (BWXT) said the work supports the naval reactor program that powers the Navy’s nuclear-powered submarines and carriers.
A second contract, worth about $165 million, funds procurement of long-lead reactor system components and manufacturing work associated with the Ford-class aircraft carrier program. BWXT said component manufacturing will occur at facilities in Barberton, Ohio, and Mount Vernon, Ind.
The awards come at a time of continued federal investment in the industrial base supporting naval nuclear propulsion as the Navy pursues the Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine program alongside continued Virginia-class submarine production and Ford-class aircraft carrier construction.
“We have no higher calling at BWXT than delivering these nuclear reactor systems for the men and women of the U.S. Navy,” Gary Camper, BWXT Nuclear Operations Group president, said in the company’s press release.
BWXT has long been a key supplier to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, producing reactor components and fuel for the Navy’s fleet. BWXT’s fuel and reactors power the Navy’s Ohio-, Virginia-, and Columbia-class submarines, all of which will carry warheads developed by the National Nuclear Security Administration. The company said it has delivered more than 420 reactor cores over its decades-long relationship with the program.
The announcement follows other recent defense-related nuclear awards for the Lynchburg, Va.-based contractor, including work tied to naval nuclear fuel production and domestic uranium enrichment capabilities supporting both naval propulsion and national security missions. In September 2025, the company was awarded a $174 million contract to manufacture naval nuclear reactor fuel.
