DOE ISSUES REQUEST FOR INTEREST FOR LANL TRU WASTE FACILITY

By ExchangeMonitor
The Department of Energy has issued a Request for Interest and prequalification criteria for the construction of new transuranic waste storage buildings for Los Alamos National Laboratory’s TRU Waste Facility. DOE intends to issue an RFP in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2013 for work at the facility, located at LANL’s TA-63 site. “The facility will consist of multiple structural steel buildings for the storage of TRU waste to meet Nuclear Facility requirements for staging of newly generated solid TRU wastes in support of LANL programs and missions,” the notice states. “A [Resource Conservation and Recovery Act]-permitted concrete pad will be designed and constructed for characterization and testing trailers that are required to certify containers to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC). Other functions provided at the TWF include intra-site shipping and receiving, operational support facilities, and necessary utilities and services.” Responses are due June 4.
