John Kotek, the former staff director for the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future, has emerged as the top candidate to serve as the next Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy, RW Monitor has learned. Kotek would fill the No.2 position in the Office of Nuclear Energy currently held in an acting capacity by Dennis Michael Miotla, who also serves as NE’s Chief Operating Officer. DOE declined to comment on the issue this week.

Kotek currently serves as Principal of Gallatin Public Affairs, where he also holds the position of Head of its Energy Policy & Facility Siting Practice Group. His previous positions also include having served as Deputy Manager of the DOE Idaho Operations Office and as a Congressional fellow in the office of former Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM).
