Japan’s International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID) issued a Request for Proposals late last week for a feasibility study on technology capable of investigating the reactor pressure vessel at the Fukushima Daii-chi Power Station. The RPV was badly damage in the accident, and innovative approaches are needed to see inside it to determine the extent of the damage. According to the RFP, the feasibility study will look at “technical information about the equipment and a device for internal RPV investigation, and its applicability.” The contract terms include a payment of 5,000,000 to 9,000,000 JPY ($47,000 to $84,000) with a start date of mid-November and an end date of February 28, 2015. Submittals are due by Oct. 3.
