Paul Murray, who has spent decades working on nuclear-related issues in the government and private sectors, could retire soon from the Department of Energy, according to industry sources.
Currently a senior adviser for DOE’s Office of Environmental Management, Murray has informed department brass about his plans to retire within days, according to an industry source. A second industry source also had heard Murray is retiring.
“We do not comment on personnel matters,” a DOE spokesperson said in a Monday email reply to an Exchange Monitor inquiry.
During the past three years, Murray has also led spent fuel and waste disposition issues for DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy. He has also spent a couple of decades in the private sector working in management positions for Orano and Areva Federal Services, according to his LinkedIn profile.
During the 1980s and 1990s, Murray worked for the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence.
“In 1996, Paul crossed the Atlantic to the United States, playing a crucial role in transferring nuclear technology from the UK,” according to an online DOE bio. “His dedication led him to work at various environmental management sites across the country, contributing to the United States’ efforts in nuclear technology development and environmental stewardship.”
