Nuclear Safety Associates announced the company has officially been acquired this week by Atkins, one of Europe’s leading design, engineering and project management firms. The acquisition for Atkins moves the company closer into the U.S. cleanup market, especially for Department of Energy contracts. Atkins cited NSA’s expertise in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations as a key addition to the firm. “NSA has a reputation for technical excellence and skills which complement those of Atkins,” Atkins’ Managing Director for the Nuclear Business in Energy Chris Ball said in a statement. “NSA’s highly qualified workforce and its people and client focused culture are a perfect fit for Atkins.” Ball added, “Atkins’ nuclear business is also supporting countries that are building nuclear for the first time, and those countries are establishing US-style regulatory regimes. NSA’s expertise in the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulatory environment will be of great value in delivering these projects.”
For NSA, the acquisition means the ability to tap into Atkins’ extensive resources. “Being part of Atkins means enormous improvements in our offerings to clients and in the experience we can provide to our employees,” NSA President Robert Frost said in a statement. “The strong similarities in our corporate cultures will make it easy for NSA to integrate Atkins’ tremendous breadth of engineering, design, and project management skills and services with our own offerings. I am proud of what our organization has accomplished over the past 13 years and equally excited about the growth we will experience over the next decade as part of Atkins.” NSA did not disclose terms of the deal, but some media reports pegged the acquisition at $15 million. NSA did not return calls for comment on the terms of the deal.
